Alias Terms
Effective
SideQuest is the independent software studio that makes Alias. These terms cover the Alias app for macOS and supplement the general SideQuest Terms of Service. If the two conflict for Alias, these Alias terms control. By buying, downloading, installing, or using Alias, you agree to these terms.
Personal license
Alias is licensed, not sold. A completed purchase grants one natural person a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Alias on Macs that person personally uses. The license covers that person's personal and work use, but it does not cover a team, household, company, or any other person.
Do not share or publish a license key; resell, sublicense, rent, or redistribute Alias; make Alias available for another person's use; or bypass its trial, license, or update controls. You may not reverse engineer or modify Alias except to the extent applicable law allows that activity despite this restriction.
Seven-day trial
A new installation includes a 7-day trial without a payment card. When the trial ends, expansion and insertion pause. Your local library remains available to view, edit, copy, import, and back up. Activating a valid paid license restores expansion.
Do not reset, manipulate, or circumvent the trial period or its local records.
Using Alias responsibly
Alias automates text entry. Expansion can be blocked, delayed, or behave differently because of text-field focus, macOS permissions, secure input, another app's behavior, operating-system changes, or other conditions outside SideQuest's control. Check inserted text before you send, publish, submit, or rely on it.
Alias is not designed for emergency, safety-critical, medical, legal, financial, or other high-risk uses where missed, delayed, or incorrect text could cause harm. You decide whether Alias and each snippet are appropriate for your use.
Purchase and delivery
Alias is a one-time $9 purchase in US dollars, not a subscription. Stripe hosts checkout and processes the payment. The final price and any applicable tax are shown before you pay, and the purchase is complete when Stripe confirms successful payment.
Alias currently requires macOS 26+. Review the current system requirements on the Alias product page before purchasing. Global expansion and insertion require macOS Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions; without them, those features will not operate.
SideQuest sends the license key and update eligibility date to the email address used at checkout. Keep that address accurate and accessible. If the email does not arrive, use the SideQuest support page. Do not send card details or a license key through the support form.
14-day refund policy
You may request a refund within 14 calendar days after purchase through the SideQuest support page. SideQuest will return the Alias purchase price through the original payment method. Refunds are not normally offered after that voluntary window.
A full refund ends the associated Alias license and update entitlement. This policy is additional to any refund, cancellation, warranty, or other rights that applicable consumer law gives you. If the law requires a different or longer remedy, that legal right controls.
Included updates and continued use
A paid license includes every generally released Alias update whose published release date is on or before the update eligibility date in your license. That date is 12 months after the purchase date. Updates published after it may require a new purchase or update entitlement.
You may continue using any covered version you obtained for as long as it remains compatible with your Mac and macOS. SideQuest does not promise a particular number or frequency of updates, compatibility with future hardware or operating-system releases, or indefinite availability of old downloads. Ending future sales, updates, or support does not remove the usage rights already granted for covered versions.
Best-effort support and availability
Alias is an independent software project. Support, maintenance, bug fixes, and future development are provided on a best-effort basis. SideQuest does not promise a response or resolution time, a service level, or a particular development schedule.
SideQuest may change or stop future sales, development, updates, downloads, or support. This does not remove usage or update rights already granted with a completed purchase or rights that applicable law requires.
Your snippets and local data
You keep ownership of the snippets, imported files, and other content you create or store with Alias. You are responsible for having the right to use that content and for using it lawfully.
Alias stores its library locally and does not provide a cloud backup. Keep your own backup of important data. SideQuest does not receive a server copy of your library and cannot recover local snippets that are lost or deleted. Direct-distribution builds may contact a SideQuest-hosted update service to check for and download updates. The Alias Privacy Notice explains the app's local data and update behavior. The general SideQuest Privacy Policy covers purchase, fulfillment, support, and related service-provider handling.
Acceptable use
Do not use Alias to violate applicable law or another person's rights. Do not disrupt or misuse the product site, checkout, fulfillment, download, update, or support systems, and do not attempt to gain unauthorized access to them.
Warranty and liability
Except for warranties or guarantees that applicable law requires, Alias is provided "as is" and "as available" and you use it at your own risk. SideQuest does not promise that Alias will be uninterrupted, error-free, suitable for a particular purpose, compatible with every app or future macOS version, or free from data loss.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SideQuest is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, business, data, opportunities, or consequences of text you create, insert, send, publish, or rely on using Alias. SideQuest's total liability arising from Alias will not exceed the amount you actually paid for Alias.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability, warranties, guarantees, consumer rights, or remedies that applicable law does not allow SideQuest to exclude or limit.
Ending the license
SideQuest may end a license if you materially breach these terms and do not fix the breach after notice where notice and correction are reasonably possible. When a license ends, you must stop using and delete your copies of Alias. Terms concerning ownership, restrictions, warranty, and liability continue to apply after termination.
General
If a provision of these terms cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A failure to enforce a provision once does not waive the right to enforce it later.
Changes and contact
The terms in effect when you purchase govern that completed purchase. SideQuest may update these terms for future purchases or versions by posting a revised copy with a new effective date, but an update will not retroactively reduce usage or update rights already granted.
Questions about Alias, a purchase, or these terms should go to the SideQuest support page.
