Move the snippets. Keep Raycast if you still need Raycast.

Alias imports the dedicated JSON file created by Raycast’s Export Snippets command. It is a focused path for personal text expansion, not a migration of Raycast’s launcher, extensions, AI, or team workspace.

Four steps

Export once. Review before anything changes.

    In Raycast, run Export Snippets and save the unencrypted JSON file somewhere private.

  2. 02

    Open Alias, choose Library, then select Import in the sidebar.

  3. 03

    Choose Choose Import Files and select one or more exported files.

  4. 04

    Review every selected row and alias collision. Import non-conflicting rows, or replace a conflict only when you intend to.

Raycast also offers a full encrypted configuration export. Alias does not import the .rayconfig archive. Use the separate Export Snippets command instead. See the current Raycast export guide.

What comes across.

Alias reads the standard snippet objects in Raycast’s JSON export. The import remains local to your Mac.

Name
Becomes the Alias snippet title.
Keyword
Becomes an Alias trigger. Alias adds a leading semicolon when the keyword does not already start with one.
Text
Becomes the plain-text snippet body.
Description and tags
Come across when those fields are present in the exported JSON.

Review these carefully

An import is not automatic feature conversion.

  • A Raycast snippet without a keyword is skipped because every imported Alias snippet needs a trigger.
  • Raycast dynamic placeholders are not translated into Alias tokens. Review any braces or generated values as plain text.
  • Formatting, command aliases, hotkeys, Quicklinks, extensions, and other Raycast settings are outside the snippet import.
  • Team ownership, organization permissions, and shared-library behavior do not move into Alias.

  • You use a Mac running macOS 26 or later.
  • You want snippets, fast Search, fill-in fields, nested snippets, and per-app expansion rules without a cloud account.
  • You prefer a focused text expander with local storage over a broader command launcher.

You need shared team snippets, Raycast-specific placeholders, Windows support, or one launcher that combines snippets with commands, extensions, and other Raycast features.
